Welcome '07-'08 ADC Executives! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Charles Thomas
Tuesday, 30 October 2007
Hello and welcome back to the ADC website,
Over the past two months the Applied Degree Council has been undergoing it's annual executive member selection process. Consequently, we have also had a change in the administration of our website, which should explain the lack of recent activity.
Currently, the selection process is complete and the new executive team is now fully in place. I would like to introduce the 2007 Executives of the Applied Degree Council:
Alice Laohaviraphab - Vice President
Robin Persaud - Chairperson
Hussein Abdulali - Treasurer
Doris Leung - Secretary
Arjun Chahal - Publicity Director
Charles Thomas - President
Ali Sheikh - Past President Advisor
These members, which includes myself, are committed to five objectives, all geared towards the applied degree students:
1. Represent the applied degree student body
2. Promote applied research
3. Advance out-of-lec/lab education
4. Provide a social environment
5. Obtain recognition outside of the institution
Essentially, we are here to allow you, the applied degree student, to have an enjoyable, well-rounded experience at Centennial College.
During this year (Fall and Winter semesters) ADC plans to take on as many initiatives as we can to fulfill these five goals.
Some ideas that we are considering are:
1. M33t and Gr33t - Part 2 (Objective 4)
2. Providing for senior degree students to supervise extra lab time for the rest of the students (Objective 2)
3. Providing a clear channel for student concerns/inquiries/ideas (Objective 1)
4. Provisioning tutorial sessions for students by students (Objective 3)
And there's more in the planning stages, including a Halo 3 competition (with prizes for the top players!).
As well, ADC is still on the lookout for student representatives from the various years! So if you're intelligent and you're a team player, then email myself or any other member of the board. You can even stop us in the halls if you know what we look like!.
On a final note, Keep your eye out (check the site often) for news on our next event! (M33t And Gr33t), Flyers and emails with details will be sent out soon!
Have a great Halloween folks!

New Additions II PDF Print E-mail

The beginnings of the ADC BookStore can be found by clicking the link on your left hand side. Presently, it has a link to a Semester 6 book list (through Amazon "aStore") which compares the prices of textbooks required with the Centennial book store price.

Unfortunately, for this semester, I was not able to get the book list for the semesters other than the one I'm enrolled in. I had emailed all of the Profs that would have been teaching me in Winter '07 during the holidays and asked which textbook would be needed (including the ISBN #).

The aim of this section, starting next semester, will be to provide a complete listing of all textbooks required, for all semesters running at the time. On top of that, we hope to be able to offer ADC Apparel (T-shirts, customized golf shirts, etc.) through an online store complete with a payment processing system. I've been working on trying to find one.. no luck yet though. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

I think that does it for this update! Until next time ladies and gentlemen... remember:

Good night.

First of all, a happy new year to you all! I hope your holidays were were fun and somewhat relaxing (unlike mine). AND, now that the Winter 07 semester has started, welcome back!

It's been a loooong time since there has been an update here but rest assured, there has been a lot going on in the background.

To start off, if you look at the menu on your left-hand side you will notice the addition of a Forum, an ADC BookStore (at least the beginnings of one) and a section on Credit Recognition. Also, if you look toward the top of the website in the topmenu there is a link to the ADCalender.

Kyle and I worked hard on finding a forum which supported the same database as the website and we succeeded! One username and password can be used on the website and the forum. Register and post in the forums!

I will provide more detailed information about each of the additions in my next few posts. Until then..

Thank you Kyle for that gracious introduction and all the hard work you've been putting into the website!

Well, you may be thinking, "Oh God... this guy talks enough as it is! Why does he need a BLOG to talk even more?" That's a good question!
The reason for the creation of this blog (as Kyle mentioned briefly) is to let ADC members and the college community know of all the work that's been going on in the background to reach goals and achievements which will benefit students now and in the future. Thus the reason for this section of the website to be appropriately labeled "Behind The Scenes."

There is a LOT more to come.. stay tuned!

Working away.. PDF Print E-mail

As Ali (president) works away trying to improve just about everything this college has to offer to us or just trying to compliment the college with new ideas, I have been working away at this website trying to make it as user friendly as possible. I also hope that it looks OK but I am no designer, haha.

As I am not trying to keep it a secret, this site is powered by Joomla. I have added some new features to it that aim to assist in getting important information to our valuable users and also assist in improving communication between students who are in different programs or years.  One of them is a forum where any communication is acceptable as long as it abides by the rules the forum administrators set and then another is a facebook.com-like profile page that allows connections between users. Definitely not as robust as facebook but I hope that it gives the users who participate in the forum and the website the feeling of a safe and caring community.

Hrm, And I really just wrote all that to test a feature Mr. President asked for, which is a blog so the users of this website can be continually updated on things ADC is doing by the second, minute, or by the hour. Good idea Ali.

I'm out for now,

Kyle
