Are there CLUBS & ACTIVITIES related to the Degrees?
Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
There are activities within the college community open to everyone. There is an Applied Degree Council (web site: www.cc-adc.org) under the CCSAI at the College. You will have a representative of Applied Degree Council in your own class elected by your class. One that may be of particular interest to students is The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Please check at the IEEE Office, Room 424 or the Electronics Office, Room 338 for details.

Can I take courses at another University FOR CREDIT towards my degree?
Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
Any course that is available at another university can be used for credit towards your degree program provided it is identical to the course in your model route, and at least 75% of the contents have been covered in that module.

How do I GET IN TOUCH WITH MY PROFESSORS?
Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
Usually an appointment is not necessary. Speak with the receptionist in Room 338 to identify a time between classes when the professor may be available. Leave a written message with a phone number and a time when you may be contacted if you need to schedule an appointment.
You may also leave a voice mail message by following the instructions provided at Centennial’s phone number. (416) 289-5000 using a touch-tone phone. When leaving a message, speak clearly, and leave a detailed message including your name, student number, and phone number. It is your responsibility to contact your professor beforehand if you’ll be unable to write a test, attend a lab or hand in an assignment.

How do I get TRANSFER CREDIT? (Technical / Professional)
Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
If you have taken a course similar to one on your Model Route at a University in Canada or from abroad or another applied degree from another College in Ontario, you can complete an “Academic Transfer Credit” Form available from the Registrar's Office. You must apply before the deadline. A course description and proof of passing (originals only) with an appropriate grade must be provided. You cannot apply if you have attempted the course at Centennial College and failed. This credit is not used in calculating your GPA.

How do I qualify for Industry/ CO-OP Placement?

How do I WITHDRAW FROM A COURSE?
Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
The college allows students to withdraw from a course if they complete and submit the appropriate form to the Registrar’s office before the deadline posted. Your grade will be ‘WNP’, and will not affect your GPA. However, should the course be a pre-requisite to other courses on your Model Route, you must successfully complete that course before you can continue. If you do not withdraw by the deadline, and fail to attend classes, you will of course, receive a ‘F’ or “FNA” grade. This ‘U’ grade will remain on your record even after you successfully complete the course at a later time.
Transferring out of CO-OP after the Semester 4 course withdrawal date does not automatically cause a student to be withdrawn from the Co-op Pre-placement Course.

Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
If you fail a course, you may join the next offering of that course only if there is room after the class starts. This usually takes place during Late Registration. Most program courses are only offered once a year and you may have to attend evening or weekend classes. You may be charged an additional fee, and cannot fail a course more than three times.

What can I do about an INCOMPLETE COURSE?
Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
You may have done satisfactory work through out a course, but were unable to complete all course work for reasons beyond your control. In this situation, your professor may agree to assign you an “I” grade, to allow you time to complete the missing work.
According to the College Policy, the time allowed for the student to complete the required additional work is at the discretion of the professor who awarded the “I” grade, up to a maximum of 12 calendar months, after which the “I” grade reverts to a failing grade “F” or “FNA” grade. (See the section entitled ACADEMIC MATTERS, in the Centennial College full-time calendar for details)

What is ACADEMIC PROBATION and how will it affect me?
Written by Ali SheikhTuesday, 28 August 2007
Failing two or more courses in any semester will place you on Academic Probation commencing the next semester. Your academic advisor has the option to restrict you to 70% of a full-time course load. The probationary status becomes part of your academic record for at least one semester. If you are successful with all your courses during the next semester, you will be taken off probation. (See the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science’s Probation/Suspension Policy for further details).
Each program also has standards for Co-op/Work Term Placement eligibility. This will specify minimum GPA and core course requirements and should be obtained from your coordinator.
